As an RN for 41 years, I still agree with the high standards in academia for all future nurses because we have people’s lives in our hands. It doesn’t mean all nurses have a GPA of 4.0 but it is critical that we have expectations and standards to meet to maintain a high quality of care for our patients. The ability to be compassionate and passionate is a quality one needs to possess before entering a college of nursing program of study. None of the virtues of nursing displayed in the video are learned in university. They are acquired while ” nursing” patients as a student. My generation did. We trained in hospitals and were paid a small wage. Regular study ” blocks ” took care of the theory. When I qualified in 1960 British nurses were considered the best in the world. I worked in the NHS until 60 years of age, and have been saddened by all the changes forced upon the staff in the name of progress.
