I’m not going to lie, some zoos are great for preserving endangered animals that can’t return to the wild but for the most part, zoos only have those big name animals like tigers, bears, leopards, etc because of the money that they bring in. Many zoos nowadays are just in it for the money any more. As far as the educational aspect, if you truly watch many of the children at zoos, typically they only stay at an exhibit for a short period of time and tend not to pay attention to any of the educational information being provided to them. They want to see an animal and that’s what they get but once that want is fulfilled they get bored and are done paying attention to it and run to the next exhibit. It’s just sad that the animals that we show children in zoos are not really how they act in the wild or on the reserves. We show children how a distressed, pacing and unhappy animal looks like in a habitat that is not even 1/3 of a representation of what their real habitat is in the wild.
