I think that is why Kubrick had him using an ax to break through the security and comfort of his victims which were his family. And that was an echo to Native American’s being a part of ours. (Or at least should have been.) Think about the portrayal of her character before the real fear began, what a weak, meek, sniveling two-dimensional character. She appeared to just go with the wind any direction it took her, and never established any real sense of depth. But hey maybe that’s some of the traits some men like in their ladies.
